Oh. Dear.

We’re not as flood affected as other parts of Queensland, but Toowoomba had flash flooding this arvo – and is still under a severe weather warning for more rain.  Our shed flooded – first time ever – we’ve lost stuff, but it’s only stuff.  (The loss of the books will hurt, though, so will the bookshelves…)

At one stage someone’s old fridge floated down our street…

We’re hearing that people have actually been swept away in town, that there have been swift water rescues.

I’ll be starting a big cleanup – it makes you think, is this stuff I would try to SAVE in a flood – or can I let it go?  For a lot of the shed stuff, that decision has been taken out of our hands – the mud that came with the water means it’s not salvageable, probably.

More rain predicted, and more rain falling as I write.  Fingers crossed the section of roof  that’s lifting on the house holds…

  1. I heard on the radio late this afternoon about the flash floods and then saw footage on the ABC 7pmnews. I hope you are OK?? I know it is only stuff, but it is your stuff. I have been thinking about what stuff I would save if I had to leave because of a bushfire. It is a bit scary, I a attached to my stuff. Take care.

    1. Cindy, thank you for thinking of us! I\’m certainly re-evaluating what \”stuff\”is really important…

    1. Kelly, that\’s so kind of you! Nope, so far there\’s nothing I can\’t live without. Most of my important books are in the house rather than the studio, so it\’s all good.

  2. So glad to hear you are relatively unscathed Caity – was thinking about you last night as we watched the news – could hardly believe my eyes. We used to live in Toowoomba – can’t imagine what it must be like at the moment.
